Guild Wars Tips from a Top 50 Player!!

This post was copied in its ENTIRETY from this link!

[START]

"Hey guys,

This post has been an idea of mine since GW came out. Our guild has faced almost every top 20 Guild in the game, and I've had the opportunity to raid some of the very best bases - personally having seen & beaten 10 of the top 20 players. (A handful of them are featured in the videos - in all cases they were > 180k might and awarded > 500 fame)
Below are my 12 most important rules I ALWAYS follow. Most of these I learned the hard way. I hope I can save you the trouble. Where possible, I tried to include a link to a relevant video.
I attempted to make these in rough order of importance, but I think they are ALL important and ALL should be followed. So, without further ado:

1) Make sure you have a solid defense!!
  • Everyone pays attention to offense but those easy bases you're attacking are someone else's defense. A few bad runs and you can cost your guild a few hundred points on offense. One bad setup (or one person who leaves up HBM base and 1 hero) and you can cost your guild thousands of points on defense.
  • Troops are a double-edged sword. If you use ground troops (especially guardians) make sure you at least have them tucked in towards the center, near your heroes, and away from any possibility of making PD stacking easy
  • As a rule of thumb, try to make sure your heroes are near the center of any base design. You want the enemy to be as close to 50% as possible by the time they have to decide whether to bail or commit!
  • If you spread your heroes out, make sure they're strong enough to hold their own. They need to be at least evo 1, and they need to have a proc that can wipe out, (or at least hold off and create problems for) an entire opponent's team. Examples: SK, Vlad, DD, Santa, Ghoul, Arc, Destroyer, Aries, AC, etc.
  • It's also helpful to sprinkle in some auto-proc heroes like: DD, HQ, and WL. I'm sure you've raided bases vs. them before and don't need me to explain how they can really screw things up :)

2) Keep your eyes on the base % and opponent's Town Hall
  • This one sounds obvious, but it's also the most important. A lot can happen in a second or 2. Once I watch the initial drop, and which heroes are engaging, I don't take my eyes off the Base %, except for very quick glances to hero bar to see who is still alive!
  • Your heroes will keep fighting. There is absolutely no need to actually watch them fight. You can always record it and see what happened later
  • Always know where the opponent's TH is and whether it's still standing and/or being attacked - at higher might, a TH can make up 15-20% of an opponent's base. So you might think you're fine and one auto attack and you're committed.

3) If it is even looking like a MAYBE at 30-40%, Exit Immediately
  • You have unlimited chances. There is no need to be a hero.
  • If the opponent's TH is already gone, or it's still standing and well out of reach, you can push the envelope a bit more to 40%. But if it's still standing and anywhere near where you are, then you don't want to push it much past 30%.

4) Avoid heroes with procs that are hard to control
  • The big one here is Mino. He is arguably the worst hero for GW. His proc is unpredictable, and one at the wrong time can wipe out half the map (but still leave heroes standing) and force you to commit to a fight you might not want to commit to.
  • Other heroes I personally don't use for the same reason (but they can be used strategically if careful) are Santa and DD. Both of these tend to be better as "openers" when dropped on their own to attempt to weaken enemy heroes.
  • My default 6 I use to raid: SK, PD, Ghoul, Val, Aries, & WL. All of them have predictable attacks which won't wipe out half the map.
  • Other heroes I use regularly: Treant, Cupid, Arc, Vlad (careful with the last 2, arc's proc area is huge and Vlad can shoot off on his own sometimes)
  • Heroes I use on my smurf (when options are limited): TG, GR, Pixie (useful for removing SK's skill)

5) Try to single out SK - Always attack the hardest/most annoying heroes first
  • Bonus shout-out to AC. Either of these heroes if left as the last unit standing can wipe out your entire team. So you want to take them out first and remove the potential problem.
  • Vlad and DD can be problems as well, but to a lesser extent. As long as your team has some decent dmg reduction and/or revive, neither of them should be able to take on 5-6 heroes at once (unless the opponent is way stronger than you - like they are evo2 and you aren't even evo 1 yet)

6) Use Troops strategically - to remove 5 Revit & absorb attacks
  • Troops are an underrated asset in GW
  • Copters are my favorite - I use them to draw out 5 Revit heroes so they waste their first proc. Think about it - you're spending a few mana to remove the enemy's main talent! You're then facing a hero with basically only a crest.
  • Guardians can also be useful to absorb enemy attacks, especially if they're using DD. (The only downside to using these is you then have them up on your defense - if you use them make sure your own base design doesn't allow enemy to stack PD)

7) Experiment with your drop order & drop timing
  • Being conscious of what order you're dropping in, and WHY, are very important. Even small differences in hero move speed will cause them to engage enemy at different times
  • Be especially aware of your timing on Aries (most important), buffers, debuffers & any heroes with revit. I try to wait to drop Aries when my heroes engage the enemy! There's no better time to have their ability to proc (and revive, or use a number of other talents) removed.

8) Pay attention to your opponent's heroes, and adjust accordingly
  • This is especially true on my smurf where I'm using heroes like TG, GR and Pixie. Does the opponent have auto-proc heroes like HQ, DD, and WL? If so, you need to exercise caution when attacking them from afar. If you're going to weaken them up first, make sure you can absorb the initial volley of attacks from them and/or heal through it.
  • Do they have Psyshield on anyone? Who? Do they have Aries or Val? If they don't have Aries, Cupid might be a better option. If they have Val, it can likely change your drop strategy to try and keep her out of things, or to get rid of her early.
  • Do they have AC? I'm seeing him more and more. If they make you force between leaving SK or leaving AC, then leave AC for the end. Just make sure you have someone with Life Drain who can power through the proc. (DD, SK, HQ, etc) or at the minimum have enough copters on hand to finish off any buildings left standing.
  • Do they have WL? If it is revit, then you should wait for the initial proc/buff to wear off before you attack. This is as simple as waiting 5 seconds before you drop and engage.
  • Is SK revit? Similar to WL, you should wait for the initial proc to wear off. Instead of 5 sec for WL, it's 10 sec for SK. Once you see the shield drop, go in for the kill!

9) Try to find Base Flaws and Use them
  • Do they have any gaps in their base where you could potentially drop? (look out for bombs)
  • Do they have walls where a hero will attack instead of walking around?
  • Don't be afraid to test them out. You don't lose anything from exiting before 50%

10) Use outer buildings to weaken heroes and/or remove Psyshield
  • Any buildings outside the walls of the base are an opportunity to build up some energy, and/or get a couple procs off. Take advantage of this to soften up opponent. Will also remove the protection from Psy crests.
  • Aries and WL are the best for this. GR and Pixie also only target heroes, but have weaker attacks. DD, HQ, SM, etc. can also be used but you need to be more careful because they can hit buildings as well.

11) If you can't beat an opponent, no matter what you do....MOVE ON!
  • Sometimes the person will be just plain way too strong for you. There is no shame in admitting defeat and moving on to the next guy in line
  • If you even 99% someone's base, you only get 70% of the points! - so it's better for you, and the guild, to move on to someone with lower might who you can actually beat.

12) Use enemy troops to stack PD
  • This won't be possible on every base with troops, but lots of times you will be able to get your PD over to a camp where he can really get some stacks going.
  • Melee troops WILL jump walls, so don't be afraid to put some Pumpkin bait out there to try and get them out. Alternatively, you can try dropping PD separately from the main group to try and steer him towards them on his own.

So there it is!!!! I will have more relevant videos incoming (such as more using troops) over the next few Guild Wars. In the meantime, I hope this helps!"

Poll #1 Results

The results of our first poll are in, and Lulu guild's favourite legendary hero is

ta dah…

Evolved Skull Knight
Skull Knight aka SK

He is the beast of Castle Clash! He is a nightmare to destroy and a dream when he is on your side. He has the fastest attack speed (ATK SPD) and the fastest movement speed (MOV SPD) of all heroes, and has one of the highest amount of hit-points (HP)in the game…And… if that wasn’t enough, Skull Knight comes with inherent revive 8/8 and a damage limiter that only two heroes are able to remove, Pixie & Arctica!

So not surprising, SK was top of our poll!

In distant and joint second place, was the essential Pumpkin Duke, PD and the majestic Vlad Dracula, Vlad

And joint third, was the magnificent trio of Dread Drake, DD, Warlock, WL & Santa Boom, SB

Thank you for taking part and we will have another poll soon…keep visiting :D
